The sunshine created an incredible backdrop to Sound Family Medicine’s Summer Step Challenge this year. Our 3rd annual contest helped bring friendly competition into the workplace to inspire healthy activity . For 4-weeks, participants logged their daily steps and activities using Daily Endorphin, an online tool that syncs with activity tracking devices such as the Fitbit. By day 3 we had some serious contenders. After the 28th day, our staff recorded more than 8,212,338 steps. 8. MILLION.
Congratulations to our winners who received $50 Amazon gift cards to put toward health and wellness goals:
- Cheryl H. – 627,671 steps (that’s more than 22,000 steps a day!)
- Inna R. – 454,908 steps
- Linda M. – 442,786 steps
- Samantha R.
- Brenda R.
- Sue L.
“When I signed up for the challenge I knew I needed to make a change because I mostly sit all day. I actually started getting some back pain and my sciatic was acting up causing pain down both of my legs. Everyday I was in excruciating pain so I wasn’t sure if I would do well in the challenge at all or even commit to walking every day. I started to feel the benefits and, in the middle of the challenge, took a few days off to go camping. I was excited to hike up a mountain so I could get my steps in. After the challenge and my little camping trip I can say I am 99% pain free!” – Sue shared after the contest. Sue continues to walk each day at lunch with a group of colleagues, adding more walkers to their routine each week.
Sound Family Medicine staff later took their steps to the track to benefit The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event. A sponsor for 17 years, our staff’s dedication has never wavered. Day and night – our community came together to fight back against cancer. Because cancer doesn’t sleep, neither did we.
SFM staff united from our Bonney Lake and Puyallup locations to walk for a cure. We left the event with thousands of steps logged, smiling selfies captured and high fives from new friends and old. Molly from our 10th Street clinic won a pair of custom Nike kicks for her participation in this year’s Relay for Life. She was able to design the style, fabric, colors and even had them personalized with her name and initials. How cool is that?
