Office-Based Procedures

Many minor surgical procedures can be performed at Sound Family Medicine offices for your convenience, and many times, at a lower cost.

A vasectomy is a highly effective, safe and permanent form of birth control, resulting in a man’s sperm no longer being able to fertilize an egg. Before considering this procedure, it is important that the topic is thoroughly discussed and you’re absolutely sure that you don’t want to have children in the future. The procedure is done in our office and is relatively quick. Afterward, you can expect some pain, swelling and possibly bruising around the area of the surgery, which should fully dissipate after about 2 weeks.

If you’re considering a vasectomy, please call one of our clinic locations so that we can provide additional details about the procedure and answer any questions you may have.

Circumcision is a simple, low-risk and commonly performed surgical procedure to remove the foreskin of the penis. Complications are extremely rare and avoidable by when performed by a competent, experienced doctor.

Birth Control and Intrauterine Devices (IUD)

Birth control procedures include intrauterine devices (IUD) and implantable contraception, like Nexplanon. The most appropriate method of birth control depends on a woman’s overall health, age, frequency of sexual activity, number of sexual partners, desire to have children in the future and family history of certain diseases. Our health care providers are here to help you determine which method is best for you.

Biopsy or Removal of Skin Lesions

Most skin lesions are not cancerous; however, evaluation and diagnosis is important. With the many types of dermatologic conditions, making a correct diagnosis is challenging and can require biopsy. Our providers evaluate the lesion in a systematic way to adequately diagnose and to distinguish those skin conditions that need a biopsy and possible further treatment.

Tuberculosis Skin Test

All of our clinics are able to provide tuberculosis (TB) skin tests. These tests are common for people who have traveled outside the US or come into contact with people exposed to tuberculosis. The procedure takes a few minutes and then you will be required to return within 48 to 72 hours to have the results examined by a provider.

Our 31st Ave clinic is equipped to perform ultrasounds for first trimester obstetrics. This is suggested for mothers who are around 20 weeks in their pregnancy to help confirm and date a pregnancy. An ultrasound also helps evaluate fetal development, notice any abnormalities, and determine the baby’s gender.

Cortisone Injections

Cortisone shots are injections designed to help relieve pain and inflammation in certain areas of the body, like joints and tendons. The injection can also treat inflammation throughout the body, like allergic reactions, asthma, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Occipital Nerve Blocks

We have providers at our Sunrise, Bonney Lake and 31st Ave clinics who can provide occipital nerve blocks to patients who suffer from migraines. Our providers use SphenoCath, a new and safe way to perform a Sphenopalatine Ganglion block without the use of needles, cotton swabs, or systemic narcotics.

Toenail Removal

All of our clinics, as well as our walk-in clinics, are able to perform toenail removals. Toenail removals are common when all or part of a toenail is infected, painful, or diseased normally due to fungi. Complete removal is normally a last resort, as there are other treatments available for toenail fungus. The procedure takes less than 20 minutes and uses a local anesthetic.
