Mr. Dale Nelson practices family medicine because he enjoys seeing patients from all walks of life. He believes that when patients feel that they have the information they need to understand their options, they are better able to overcome medical challenges and continue with their normal daily life. He wants his patients to consider Sound Family Medicine as part of their team and know they have people working on their side to keep them and their family healthy.
His journey into medicine came unexpectedly. He had been in the military as an Infantryman with 2nd Ranger Battalion when he was involved in some casualty situations in Afghanistan. His lack of training in that situation pushed him to seek more knowledge in the medical field. He applied and was accepted to the University of Nebraska Interservice Physician Assistant Program in 2007. Upon graduation, he was awarded a master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. In 2017, after 21 years of military service and 6 combat deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, he retired and wanted to be back home in Washington State.
He and his wife have been married for 20 years and have 4 children. They grew up in Lakewood/Tacoma and wanted to raise their kids in a quiet, tight-knit community. They are avid movie watchers and love cooking together as a family. Their family also loves all things that start with Disney (ending with Disney is ok too). Football is their favorite sport – as long as they are cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs or WSU Cougars. They are also very passionate about supporting children’s charities such as The Wishing Well, No Kid Hungry Foundation and local school classrooms and libraries.
