Eating Like This
Guy Can Help You.
When you compare our bodies to the bodies of our ancestors there is clearly a difference. As you go back in time we notice the people are thin, much thinner than us. So what is the difference? To begin with cavemen and women worked hard for food, something that isn’t exactly true for us. Chasing animals and walking down a grocery store aisle don’t exactly burn the same amount of calories. In addition, they ate what they could get a hold of which was mainly fruits, meats with less fat, tubers and nuts, all with fewer calories than now. We also eat what we can get a hold of, which is mainly anything and everything. One similarity between cavemen and people of today is the way our body works. Our body naturally wants to store fat in case we cannot find food right away. This was good for them; not, however, for us. |
|
| You don’t need to eat like our ancestors did, but you might need to make a few changes in your diet. Once you get the hang of it, it shouldn’t be too difficult. First off, go ahead and eat when you are hungry. When you do eat try to eat more nuts, whole grains, vegetables, and olive oil. Olives, fish, and nuts will give you Omega-3 fats which are the good fats. They help your body increase levels of chemicals that make you feel fuller. Whole grains do the same thing. If you eat more of these you won’t need to worry about your calorie intake.
Watch out for ingredients labeled simple sugars, enriched or bleached flour, and high fructose corn syrup. Enriched means the food you are eating has be stripped of its nutrients. Fructose means it will not turn off your hunger cues, thus confusing your brain and body into eating more. Also, if it’s possible, choose unsaturated over saturated. Food with saturated fat produce less leptin, a hormone that helps you feel full. Unsaturated fats will fill you up faster and you will stay full longer.
Sometimes when you think your body is telling you to eat, it isn’t really hungry, but thirsty. Your body can send confusing signals. Drink a glass of water to help tell if you are actually hungry or if you just need to quench your thirst. When you’re thirsty your body doesn’t need a bunch of calories. Mostly it is thirsty because hormones in your stomach need it or because your blood is thick from eating and you need something to dilute it.
You have to keep in mind that your family may be bigger boned or rather bigger celled. A good way to tell what a healthy weight is for you is to not to look at movie stars but a photo of your former self. Look at some pictures of you when you were in your prime (ladies’ prime is 18 and gentlemen’s 21). That was the height of your metabolism and a time where you weren’t stuck at work for 8 hours a day and could go out and do something. Then you can estimate what to work towards.
Keep these things in mind and you’re sure to have your body looking young again. Just remember to act like a caveman or woman when it comes to food and you’ll be able to not only lose weight but also keep it off. If you want to learn more you might want to check out

Portion sizes can be important too. Stick with a baseball for your vegetables, a deck of card for your meats, and a computer mouse for your starches.

Is Your Durable Power of Attorney For Health Care Current?
Have you made a New Years Resolution this year? We have one idea for you. Make sure you are taken care of by filling out a Durable Power of Attorney (POA) form. You don’t need to make detailed plans to get this done. You can knock it off your to do list in about five minutes by following the directions below.
Everyone should have a durable power of attorney for health care issues as a part of their long term planning. This is extremely easy to do, and is free.
What is a durable power of attorney for health care matters? It is a document that gives another trusted person the authority to make health care decisions for you if for some reason you cannot make the decisions for yourself.
Why would you need this? If you are in a car accident, and unconscious, but need emergency surgery, the person with your authorized power of attorney can give consent for the surgery to be done.
Also if you are older and go into a coma it gives the person with your prior consent to either keep you on life support or to let you die without it. These situations can happen to anyone from all walks of life, so it is important for you and your loved ones to have one.
To download a DPA form to print out and complete just go to
http://www.soundfamilymedicine.com/pdf/DurablePowerAttorney.pdf
And print and complete the form. It is the Washington State POA form, and needs to be witnessed, ideally notarized, in order to be valid. You should print one of these for each of your family members, and then let the designated POA know where to find the document in case it is needed.
It’s that easy. Congratulations, you have made a big step towards keeping your important documents up to date and in order.
