Secure Messaging - Why You Should Care
Whether you have a question about a red bottom or a black eye, the answer is as close as your computer. When you become a patient at Sound Family Medicine, you can contact your doctor online, anytime. You can even request lab results, order prescription refills and set up appointments. In most cases, you'll get your answer the same day.
It's great to be able to get all this information online, but how safe is your information? That's what secure messaging is all about. We utilize the latest technology to ensure that the information you send to us and the information we send to you is safe. We have had over 16,000 patients use our website to access information and make appointments. In fact, we are seeing a trend toward more online appointments being made versus people calling the clinics - a sign of the electronic age.
It's not to say that this change is not without its challenges. It's important to note that the online format requires a patient's name to be an exact match of the name in the computer system at Sound Family Medicine. (ex: Susan Jones versus Susie Jones). If this does not match your name in the clinic's records, the login won't work. Also, a first time login requires entry of the last four digits of your social security number. A few of our patients don't feel comfortable entering this information online. In that circumstance, you can call the front desk and they will assign a temporary number for your initial login. Also we can make mistakes too for example, typing in This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it instead This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . So if that is the case just email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or give us a call to correct your address.
It is important to note that access to children's accounts is under the insured member's login. This is required to meet privacy requirements. Another legal guardian in the home can request that this be changed. An example is if the child's account is held under the father's name because he holds the insurance, but the mom wants to make appointments and get other information on behalf of the child. Just contact the clinic and we can make that change.
Overall, the ability to schedule appointments online has been a great convenience to our patients. Here are some comments from some of them:
"I love being able to make appointments online. By going online I'm able to get my needs met in under five minutes!"
"I love it! That's why I use your clinic. It's easy to make an appointment!"
Technology is a great thing, but it is still evolving. We promise to continue to evolve as well to meet the changing needs of our patients.
